Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan professional staff members are senior subject matter experts with demonstrated leadership experience and broad range of interdisciplinary skills. Working under the direction of the bi-partisan Congressional Commission Co-Chairs and Executive Director, professional staff members with work at the national level to coordinate research and conduct analysis of issues affecting national policy in the areas of security, acquisition, logistics and international development. The primary focus of these activities involves the management and administration of over $100 billion in federal contracts to support contingency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Professional staff members will work with leadership and senior policy makers in several federal agencies including the Department of Defense, Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development and other related organizations.
 
Professional staff member duties and responsibilities include:
 
As required, investigate operations both in the United States and in theater to determine facts and circumstances related to carrying out U.S. policy and stated mission requirements inherent in the charter of the Commission 
 
Conduct expert research and analysis of the most complex issues involving interagency cooperation and mutual support in a wartime setting.
 
Serve as team leaders for ad hoc groups of experts assigned to research an area identified by the Commissioners as vitally important to the national interest. Teams will be composed of subject matter experts, investigators, auditors, attorneys and others as necessary 
 
Represent the Commission in meeting and dealing with federal agency leaders at the presidential appointee, general officer/senior executive service levels. 
 
Coordinate interagency cooperation and shared research among various organizations which have existing mission requirements related to the Commission’s charter, e.g. the General Accountability Office, Congressional Budget Office and various Inspectors General
 
Develop position papers and related analysis to support the Commissioners in preparing to brief Congress and issue materials for release to the public
 
Support Congressional hearings by conducting the requisite advance work and research to insure the Commissioners have the information they need to effectively represent the Commission.
 
Meet and deal with industry leaders at the President and Senior Vice President levels to insure that industry views and concerns are properly considered 
 
Professionally write, edit and finalize key elements of supporting documents which will evolve into Commission interim and final reports. These documents will be published for nationwide distribution and will be prepared to meet the highest standards of professionalism
